Can foreigners take Samurai Swords back home as souvenirs?

If it is not a genuine sword, you can take it home when it is packed in your check-in luggage (not in your carry-on luggage).
When it comes to a genuine sword, you need to get an official permit for export.
Currently you can export them to the U.S. and most European countries with a permit, but cannot do so to China and Korea.
