Japanese woman in samurai age: Tmoe gozen
巴御前:[Tomoe Gozen(1157-1247)]

Tomoe Gozen was one of the few examples of a true female warrior samurai in all of Japanese history.

She was a samurai during the time of the 源平の戦い[Genpei War] (1180-1185).
Her name is "Tomoe gozen", and her first occupation was a prostitute.

Tomoe was especially beautiful, with white skin, long hair, and charming features.
She loved samurai "源義仲[Minamoto no Yoshinaka]( or 木曽義仲[Kiso Yoshinaka])" who had the wife and children and fought in the arena of warfare with him.

She was also a remarkably strong archer, and as a swords woman she was a warrior worth a thousand, ready to confront a demon or a god, mounted or on foot.
She handled unbroken horses with superb skill; she rode unscathed down perilous descents.

Whenever a battle was imminent, Yoshinaka sent her out as his first captain, equipped with strong armor, an oversized sword, and a mighty bow; and she performed more deeds of valor than any of his other warriors.

<Takarazuka Revue>:
The Takarazuka Revue (宝塚歌劇団;Takarazuka Kagekidan) is a Japanese all-female musical theater troupe based in Takarazuka, Hyo-go Prefecture, Japan.

Women play all roles in lavish, Broadway-style productions of Western-style musicals, and sometimes stories adapted from 少女マンガ[shoujo manga] (Girls' comics) and Japanese folktales.

<Actors of Takarazuka>:
So while Takarazuka "reinforces the status quo and sublimates women's desires through its dreamy narratives, there remains some possibility that certain spectators find it empowering simply to watch women play men."

Takarasienne plays, like "ベルサイユのばら[berusaiyu no bara] (The Rose of Versailles)", feature androgynous characters.

The 男役[otokoyaku] represents the woman's idealized man without the roughness or need to dominate, the "perfect" man who can not be found in the real world.

It is these male-roles that offer an escape from the strict, gender-bound real roles lauded in Japanese society.

Japanese peculiar lunch Bento

Japanese peculiar lunch "Bento"

Do you know bento of Japan?

弁当[Bento] is a lunchbox for lunch.
Bento is a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine.
A traditional bento consists of rice, fish or meat, and one or more pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container.
Because the price of the restaurant is high, bento made at home is very economical.

Sun(length) SUN in kanji Small Onyomi mark sun Small Kunyomi mark none

Its traditional measure is the width of a person's thumb at the knuckle, whereas the width of the two forefingers denotes 1.5 cun and the width of all fingers side-by-side is three cuns. In this sense it continues to be used to chart acupuncture points on the human body in various uses of traditional Chinese medicine.

Hokkaido located in northernmost of Japan

The climate of Japan is generally mild.

But, since Japan is an archipelago of islands stretching some 3,000km from north to south, the weather depends greatly on where and when you will be traveling.
札幌[さっぽろ/sapporo] on the northern island of 北海道[ほっかいどう/hokkaido] is in the sub-arctic climate zone whilst 沖縄[おきなわ/okinawa] in the south is sub-tropical.

Japan experiences a rainy season.(a rainy season=梅雨[つゆ/tsuyu, or ばいう/baiu]

Typically this takes place from mid-June to mid-July and is characterized by high humidity and above average rainfall.
During September and early October, tropical low-pressure systems can develop into typhoons over the Pacific.

Travelers should pay attention to storm warnings, particularly for coastal areas, if traveling in Japan.

Learn how to write the four compass directions in Japanese kanji symbols.

North,-south,-east,-and-west.gifWriting the North, South, West, and East in Japanese kanji symbols.

When putting them together, you will put them in the following order.

  1. North (北)
  2. South (南)
  3. West (西)
  4. East (東)

But, in Japan they are written like this.

  1. East (東)
  2. West (西
  3. South (南)
  4. North (北)

As you have read so far, there are two different ways to pronounce them in Japanese.

If it is used as a single kanji character, you have to read them as "East-Higashi, West-Nishi, South-Minami, North-Kita".

These are the Japanese original pronunciations that are called "Kunyomi".

When putting them together, you have to read them as "East-Tou, West-Zai, South-Nan, Nort -Boku".

These are the pronunciations that are called "Onyomi", and these are the pronunciations imported from China to Japan.
